Here are two more fractal images I have been working on in the trial version of UltraFractal.  Both started with the Mandelbrot image.  I'm still debating whether I want to spend $69 for the full version without the watermarks.

Fractal Serendipity

I decided I wanted a fractal image for the cover photo of my Facebook page.  Rather than messing with the complicated programs that I have been trying to learn, I decided that there must be "an app for that".  Certainly there was!  The app I choose was Fractal Serendipity by Centcom Inc.  After messing with it for several days I can definitely say it is well worth the $5.99 price tag.  Here is the image I choose for this weeks cover photo:

Here is my page information for anyone interested in "liking" me:

The problem with the trial version

I suppose nothing in life is free.  I'm using my MAC to experiment with the trial version of UltraFractal.  I like the results except for that annoying watermark!

Apophysis Wednesday

I seem to have a basic understanding of the basic.  I can now tell the difference between a "mandelbot" and a "julia" on sight.  Today I'm working with Apophysis.  I like this program as it gives the option to move the triangles.  Also is the option to copy, add & delete triangles.  This can be accomplished using the F4 editor button.  I'm still wondering what I can do to give more depth to the images.

Here is a fractal I made with Sterling 2.  I'm fairly satisfied with this one although I'd like to see more depth and luminosity.

Here is a fractal I found on FlickR (via Pinterest) from Nancy Olsen.  I'm not sure what program or platform she used to create the artwork, but I find it mesmerizing!

Welcome to my new blog:

My Quest for Fractal Satisfaction !!!!

I have been interested in fractal art since I saw some of the amazing artwork on Fine Art America http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/terry-weaver.html.  I understand that fractals are basically about making math beautiful.  So I went in search of a program that could help me make my own fractal art.  Mostly I work on a MAC, but I do have a Windows computer on which I like to bounce around.

My first step was to google "fractal art" and see what items presented themselves.  There are several free fractal programs for Windows, but I couldn't seem to locate any for MAC.

I tried Apophysis http://www.apophysis.org/downloads.html and Sterling 2 http://soler7.com/Fractals/Sterling2.html for Windows.  I am also trying out a 30 day trial version of UltraFractal http://www.ultrafractal.com/download/ for the MAC.

In the days ahead I will post my progress and pictures from each program in hopes of helping others searching for FRACTAL SATISFACTION :)
